Yesterday afternoon, rather unexpectedly, we came across the Godiva Festival, a free music event taking place in Coventry. Being rather sceptical at the line up after hearing a) the ticket price and b) the location we were pleasantly surprised to see on the bill that night was Badly Drawn Boy and Ash. After a short stroll through the fun fair and stall selling sweets so laced in sugar I found it inappropriate to name them anything other than ‘sugar’ we came across the entrance to the music field. For something none of us had heard of before and being only a short drive away we were impressed by the size of it.
The crowd was well lubricated with cider, beer or wine and ready for a good old sing song, they weren’t disappointed. Ash, looking young as ever, rocked out with the large crowd of misfits. Godiva seemed to consist of the hardcore fans to the drunken chav off the street. Whilst the event looks great on paper and has been running for 13 years, is UK’s biggest, free & ticketless family friendly festival, it still has some way to go to earning it’s place on the festival map. Ash seemed genuinely pleased to be there, even reassuring those gathered of this fact.
We’d give the Godiva Festival a thumbs up though and would definitely make a repeat visit next year! Also thanks to my beautiful missues Erica for writing most of the content for this and taking the photos.
